Hollywood has lost his shakespeare

One of the great director of hollywood, the oscar-winnning filmmaker of the english patient, Anthony Minghella has passed away two weeks ago. Director of Truly, Madly, Deeply(1993), Mr. Wonderful(1993), The English Patient(1996), The Talended Mr. Ripley(1999), Play(2000), Cold Mountain(2003), Breaking and Entering(2006) and The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, the movies he has directed have been nominated for 24 oscars and won 10 oscars. What I did really like with Minghella, made me call him the shakespeare of Hollywood, is his ability to discuss a philosophic question behind the intrigue of his "play" without affecting the uniqueness and originality of piece itself. Let's take for example one of the popular play of shakespeare, Hamlet. The play vividly charts the course of real and feigned madness in a wondefull story and explores at the same time themes of treachery, revenge, incest, and moral corruption in this remarkable tragedy unique of his kind. That's the case with Minghella, when you take for example a movie like cold mountain, at first you are astonish by the originality of the storyand then amazed the incredible review of secession war (the American Civil War from 1861 to 1865) potraying how hatred amd insanity can put the human being so low degrading oneself by his vileness; oppose to his ability to create, to reveal his greatness by the opposite feeling. Of course, most of the movie Minghella directed were based on book, but his talent was his ability to give a such fascinating apsect to these stories, giving you the feeling of reading an historical piece of literature. But you cannot get this feeling with all the movies he directed, as a matter of fact I didn' t like the English patient, boring, neither Breaking and entering, annoying.
